Growing up in Québec City, we used to eat Fontaine Santé’s Tofu Spread on a regular basis. Tofu spread is such a versatile item. You can use it as a dip, in sandwiches, burgers, sushi or spring rolls.
I introduced this spread to my husband when we were living in Montreal a few years back and he simply loves it! He would often eat an entire container in one sitting! Since we moved back to Newfoundland, we have both very fondly missed our tofu spread snacks.
Last time I went to visit family back home, I bought some tofu spread and looked at the ingredients to attempt to recreate this delicious spread. I had so much fun playing in the kitchen to recreate this loved spread and I am quite pleased with the final result. It is very similar to the original one and definitely satisfies our cravings for this spread! I have made quite a few attempts with different brands of tofu, and I found that to get the best result, I need to use the Extra Firm Unisoya Tofu. The other tofu brands that I tried just didn’t give the same firm yet creamy texture. If you are going to try the recipe, I highly recommend using Unisoya tofu if it is available in your neighbourhood.
- 8 ounces (1/2 package) extra firm regular tofu (Unisoya)
- ½ cup mayonnaise (or vegannaise)
- 1 carrot
- 1 tablespoon dijon style prepared mustard
- 1 tablespoon Braggs liquid aminos (or tamari sauce)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon celery seeds
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- Drain tofu by placing it between paper towels and pressing to remove excess water.
- Process tofu, mayonnaise, carrot, mustard, Braggs liquid aminos, garlic powder, celery seeds, oregano, salt and pepper in a food processor or blender until fairly smooth.
- Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about 1 week.

My daughter really loves your Tofu Spread and we can’t find it anywhere. Could you please let me know where I can buy it? I used to purchase it a Costco but they no longer carry it.
