This smoothie is so rich and chocolaty, I had no choice but call it a milkshake. It makes for a nice dairy-free breakfast, snack or desert. I make it with raw cocoa nibs that my brother brought me from Peru. Cocoa nibs are bits of crushed cocoa beans, which means they have no sugar and are just so pure! I love their taste and unique texture. They are delicious in this milkshake, but if you don’t have nibs, you can replace with cocoa powder.

Author: Homemade Hearts
Serves: 2
Ingredients
- ½ cup almonds
- 4 Medjool dates, pitted
- 1 banana, frozen
- ¼ cup raw cocoa nibs (or 3 tablespoon cocoa powder)
- 3 cups water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch sea salt
Instructions
- Blend all the ingredients together in a high speed blender for 2-3 minutes, until very smooth.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate to chill.
Notes
Personally, I love to have the almond pulp in my shake, but for some who may think it is a bit too thick, start by blending the water and almonds together. Strain the almond pulp. Place the liquid (which is actually your very own homemade almond milk) back in the blender and blend with the rest of the ingredients. You can also replace the almonds and water in this recipe with 3 cups almond milk, or another type of dairy-free beverage.
